Cigars and Alcohol
Do Go Together.
For a long time cigars were viewed as something only the rich,
powerful, or celebrities were able to get and smoke. The
stigmatism that older men smoked cigars has been played over and
over again in black and white movies, plays, and even more modern
films. Many times these men smoked cigars and drank brandy.
However, this is not the case any longer. If you have just started
getting into and smoking cigars here are a few tips to get you
started.
In the past cigars have always been paired with very strong
alcohol, such as brandy, whisky, or rum. Many people enjoy smoking
a cigar in this way, pairing a strong liqueur with a cigar is
actually a very good combination. Mainly because the alcohol is
only slightly sweet and balances the very strong taste of the
cigar. Recently though, beer has become popular to have with a
good cigar. In the past it was always overlooked as a beverage to
have with a cigar. However, there are many beers that can be
paired very well with cigars because of the varieties available
and the different flavors that are offered. Especially now that
cigars have entered the mainstream, may more people are looking to
try cigars and the many ways to enjoy them.
Pairing cigars and beer is not as easy as it sounds, only because
putting together your favorite beer and favorite cigar may not
work together. Once you start finding combinations you look
though, it will be well worth the time that was spent. The more
experienced you become with cigars and which flavors you enjoy the
easier it will be to know which beer to have with which cigar.
When you are first starting out smoking cigars, picking a beer
will be a little harder, however keep trying and you will find
what you like over time.
One thing to always remember is that because cigars are so strong
and flavorful picking a beer should complement the intensity that
cigars offer. Picking a stronger beer to go with a lighter beer
may work. Also, picking a beer with a fruity or interesting or
unique flavor goes well with cigars that are lighter and not as
strong. When having a very strong cigar choosing a lighter beer is
always a better choice. Typically have imported beers, lagers,
stouts, and beers with richer flavors work best. Extremely light
beers or very pale beers do not go as well with cigars mainly
because those types of beers are not as flavorful or have more of
a bland taste.
Going through many cigars and beers to find just the right
combination might not be such a bad way to spend an evening. Once
you find the combinations you like, most likely you will not
forget them and it will be worth it every time you smoke a cigar.
Keep the tips above in mind and you will always be able to pick
the beers and cigars that you like best and that will taste best
together.
