Looking to Purchase
Cigars From Cuba?
Many regular cigar smokers will tell you that Cuban cigars are
some of the best around and the hardest to get. Trying to buy them
can be a bit of a problem. If you live in the United States you
probably already know that anything coming from Cuba is banned.
There is a no trade policy and getting anything from Cuba could
get you into trouble. If you did not already know, purchasing
Cuban cigars in the United States is completely illegal. Back in
1963 the United States had placed economic sanctions on Cuban,
thus making anything gotten from Cuba completely illegal. However,
there are many cigars smokers that are willing and want to take
that risk since Cuban cigars are the best around and have a
completely unique and different taste than anything else out
there. They have become the holy grail I guess you could say of
the cigar smoker’s world. There are a few things to know before
trying to purchase Cuban cigars though.
The good news is that there is a loophole to purchasing Cuban
cigars and bringing them back to the United States. If you are
able to get a sanctioned and licensed visit to Cuba than you can
bring back Cuban cigars. However, you can only bring back $100.00
worth and they can only be for personal use and not resale. Thus,
the reason for the $100.00 limit. If going about getting Cuban
cigars any other way, remember then it is illegal. You cannot buy,
sell, or trade Cuban cigars or anything else from Cuba in the
United States. The fines for breaking the buy, sell, or trade laws
can become as high as $55,000.00 in civil fines alone. Actually
receiving this fine is rare and the greater possibility is that
you will have your cigars confiscated instead. If you are still
willing to take this risk then keep a few things in mind.
One thing you want to make sure of is that you do not get tricked
with fake or knock off Cuban cigars. You want to make the cigar
bands are Cuban and do not looked changed out or irregular in any
way. Also, Cuban cigars usually cost around $150.00 to $500.00 a
box. Anything less than this and there may be a high probability
that they are not the real thing. Also, internet sites that
advertise that they sell Cuban cigars many times are imitations
and cigar shops or sellers that offer you discounted Cuban cigars
be wary of also.
The easiest way to come across a box of Cuban cigars is to go to
Canada. If you can buy them there, you will need to remove the
bands and packaging so they are not in the original Cuban
packages. They will then need to be placed in different boxes
also. Typically customs agents do not inspect cigars that
carefully if they look correct and do not have any Cuban markings
or packaging.
Either way you decide to get Cuban cigars they are a treat. Always
remember to stay safe while trying to get your hands on these rare
cigars and be prepared for the consequences if you do get caught.
Once you have them, enjoy them to their fullest extent, as you may
not get another chance to have them again.
